NHS England Commissioning Intentions

Decision Maker: Health & Wellbeing Board and ICB Sub-Committee (Committees in Common)

Decision status: Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

NHS England has developed its commissioning intentions, which outlines which specialised services will be commissioned by NHS England, and which are the responsibility of Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG).  The Commissioning Intentions provide a basis for robust engagement between NHS England’s area teams and providers of specialised services, and are intended to drive improved outcomes for patients, and transform the design and delivery of care, within the resources available.

The Board will be asked to note the presentation and the information within it.

Decision:

The Board noted:

(i)  The NHS England (London) draft commissioning intentions for 2016/17 and the work that would be done to triangulate the various service areas;

(ii)  How NHS England would ensure the delivery of day-to-day services and their strategic long-term plans through the use of commissioning and contractual means; and

(iii)  That NHS England would review and report back on Paediatric Intensive Care beds and children being in adult intensive care wards.
