Liver Disease Prevention Strategy

Decision Maker: Health & Wellbeing Board and ICB Sub-Committee (Committees in Common)

Decision status: Approved

Is Key decision?: Yes

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

Hospital admissions for liver disease, mainly due to excess alcohol consumption, continue to rise year upon year.

The HWWB Board are asked to agree and support a move to develop a cohesive strategy that addresses this need.

Decision:

The Board supported Barking and Dagenham partnership engagement in the development of a tri-borough liver disease prevention strategy through an appropriate commissioning approach.

It was noted that as the strategy emerges appropriate media and communications will be developed at an early stage to make local residents aware of the growing problem of liver disease in the borough, many cases of which are preventable.
