Decision details

Disposal of Surplus Library Book Stock

Decision Maker: Cabinet

Decision status: Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

A review of the book stock held by the Council’s library service has identified a number of potentially valuable books that are no longer required by the service.  The book stock proposed for sale does not include any items that relate to the local area, Essex or other subjects relating to the collection policy of the Council’s Heritage Services.

The Cabinet will be asked, in line with the Council’s disposal of assets policy, to approve the sale of these items at auction, with the income received to be re-invested in the library service.

Decision:

Cabinet resolved to:

(i)  Agree the disposal of surplus book stock held by the Council’s Library Service in accordance with the proposals set out under Options 1 and 2 of the report; and

(ii)  Authorise the Corporate Director of Adult and Community Services, in consultation with the Chief Finance Officer, to finalise the disposal arrangements.
